Praising God in ordinary things

I read this article today, and it really made me think about how we take for granted the blessings that God gives us.  Something that is as simple as our car starting up each morning, can be easily overlooked if we are not aware of God’s hand upon our lives, and living in a worshipful attitude toward Him.  Take a quick minute to read this short excerpt taken from her book Father, I Love You by Joyce Chapman:

“Father, when I started our car this morning, I was greeted by a quiet, smooth-running engine. I have never paid particular attention to this blessing. Thoughts started knocking at my heart’s door: a message is trying to get through to me. Why is it that when things are going along smoothly, I accept them without thought other than, “That’s the way it is supposed to ‘run.’ I may just continue with what I’m doing without any thought towards the blessing that I’m receiving. I would never overlook my gratitude toward someone’s kind and thoughtful action. I would thank them and show my appreciation in an appropriate way. But, when it is a life’s blessing coming from You, I am slow to recognize the magnitude of Your goodness or to realize that it is, indeed, a blessing.”

At times, everyone needs inspiration to help get through the day and keep their minds on the right track for living a Christian life. It is easy to get caught up in the busyness and emotion of this world. Christ, however, cautioned his followers not to be distracted but instead to consider the miracles around them, to be in awe of God’s creation and to learn.
